PHBern is modernizing its campus management with daylight.
One of the largest universities of teacher education in Switzerland, a legacy system at the end of its life cycle, and new, individualized study plans that could no longer be represented by it: PHBern faced a complex replacement task. With daylight, it found a campus management solution that covers the entire student life cycle, integrates nine external systems, and is being rolled out gradually to all degree programs.
PHBern
At a glance
PHBern is one of the largest universities of teacher education in Switzerland, training and providing professional development for teachers at all levels. Its existing campus management system reached its technical limits with the introduction of new, individualized study plans and could no longer be expanded.
With daylight, PHBern has implemented a flexible, future-proof solution that fully covers the administration of the student lifecycle and is deeply integrated into the existing system landscape. The phased rollout began with a pilot project at selected institutes and is being gradually extended to other degree programs. The collaboration with daylight is experienced as a partnership, reliable, and professionally competent.
PHBern – one of the largest teacher training colleges in Switzerland
The Bern University of Teacher Education (PHBern) was founded in 2005 and currently has over 3,000 students. It is one of the largest universities of teacher education in Switzerland and offers not only teacher training but also continuing education, research, and services. Managing the entire student lifecycle, from admission and academic support to graduation, places correspondingly high demands on the software used.
A legacy system that could no longer keep pace with new requirements.
PHBern managed the student lifecycle using an existing campus management system, which served as a central master data system and provided interfaces to internal and external applications. With the introduction of new, more individualized study plans, it became clear that this system could no longer adequately support the increased demands. Technical expansion was not possible, and some components had reached the end of their lifecycle.
PHBern therefore decided to procure new campus management software. This software was intended to fully map the administration of the new study programs, offer a high degree of standardization, and at the same time be flexibly adaptable to the specific needs of the university.
Deeply integrated and gradually introduced
PHBern selected daylight as its new campus management solution. Its functionality focuses on the core processes for student administration, while functions of the previous system that are not part of campus management will remain in place for the time being and will be gradually replaced by modern solutions.
The rollout will be phased: Following a pilot phase at selected institutes, the solution will be gradually extended to other degree programs and departments at PHBern. A case-by-case decision will be made as to whether existing study plans and data will be migrated or operated in parallel with the old system during a transition phase.
"From the initial consultation to the ongoing collaboration, open communication has been central. Concerns are addressed promptly and solutions are sought."

Further improvements and efficiency gains
The phased expansion to other degree programs and departments is a key element of the implementation concept. Continuous collaboration with daylight is crucial in tailoring the solution to practical requirements. Specifically, PHBern is currently benefiting from the following developments:
Existing functions of the legacy system are being gradually replaced by modern solutions.
Direct communication with daylight enables targeted further development of the solution.
Based on previous experience, PHBern wholeheartedly recommends daylight, particularly due to its professional commitment and reliability in implementation.
