The Kreuzlingen Senior Center manages its internal continuing education programs using daylight.

Qualified staff are not a given in the care sector—they are the foundation of quality care. The Alterszentrum Kreuzlingen cooperative now uses daylight to plan, manage, and document its entire continuing education program: from course planning and registration for internal and external participants to a complete training history for each individual. What used to get lost in Excel spreadsheets is now readily accessible in a structured format at any time.

Cooperative AZK

At a glance

The Kreuzlingen Senior Center Cooperative is a care facility in the canton of Thurgau that meets high quality standards and is required to demonstrate compliance with them. In addition to its core care services, the senior center offers continuing education programs open to both staff members and external participants. Before implementing daylight, there was no structured system in place to manage these programs or track staff members’ training status.

With daylight as its course management software, the retirement home now has a centralized solution: courses are scheduled, registrations are managed digitally, and the training history of all employees is fully documented. The implementation has not only made operations more efficient but has also prompted a fundamental rethinking of internal processes. Externally, the retirement home is now perceived even more strongly as a professional and forward-looking organization.

Kreuzlingen Senior Center Cooperative – Care and Support in the Canton of Thurgau

The Kreuzlingen Senior Center Cooperative provides professional care, support, and assistance to older adults in the Kreuzlingen area. As an organization in the health and social services sector, it sets high standards for employee qualifications: Regular training and continuing education are essential for quality assurance and meeting certification requirements.

The Senior Center also acts as an educational provider, offering courses to both employees and external participants. Mathias Trempa, as Head of Education and Quality, is responsible for this very area.

No overview of courses, registrations, and training records

Before implementing daylight, the Kreuzlingen Senior Center relied on manual lists and Excel spreadsheets to track training sessions and document employees’ continuing education status. There was no structured course management system: it was difficult to tell at a glance who had attended which course, and several previous attempts to create a reliable overview had failed.

For an organization that offers continuing education for both internal and external participants and must simultaneously demonstrate quality certifications, this situation was a real weak point. There was no integration between course planning, registration processes, and the documentation of training status.

Mathias Trempa, Head of Education and Quality, explains: “It was difficult to get an overview of which employees had completed which training courses. We had already tried several times.”

Course Management, Registration, and Training History in a Single System

With daylight, the Kreuzlingen Senior Center implemented a course management solution that covers every step from planning to documentation. Continuing education offerings are recorded and managed in daylight; internal staff and external participants can register digitally; and completed training is seamlessly tracked in the history function. For the first time, this provides a complete picture of the training status across the entire organization, which can be accessed at any time.

During the implementation, the Senior Center benefited from the daylight team’s experience and was simultaneously encouraged to critically examine its own processes—a step that proved just as valuable as the software itself.

“We were essentially forced to tackle our internal processes. And the reliability of the implementation gave us a great deal of confidence in the process.” Mathias Trempa, Head of Training and Quality

Transparency has been established and the foundation laid for targeted training planning

Since the introduction of daylight, the Kreuzlingen Senior Center has had access at all times to the current training status of its employees. This overview has become the direct basis for annual program planning: training needs are identified and addressed in a targeted manner.

All necessary documentation for quality certifications is available in a structured format. The center’s external image has also changed: it is now perceived even more as a professional and forward-looking organization.

This project should not be underestimated. I would definitely go down this path again!

Further Improvements and Efficiency Gains

The switch to daylight was also a cultural shift for the facility. Not all employees found it easy to let go of the lists they were used to, and the ongoing digitalization process still needs time to take hold internally. Trempa takes a pragmatic view: the direction is right, and the benefits are already evident in day-to-day operations. Specifically, the senior care center now benefits from the following improvements:

Training needs are identified directly from the system and incorporated into the annual planning.

Course registrations are handled digitally for both internal and external participants, without any manual effort.
